January 26 | Cooking with OXONE : Menu : Ikan Bawal Tim Hongkong Chef : Angelica Halim The Hongkong Tim Pomfret is a typical Chinese dish that is usually served at certain events, such as Chinese New Year celebrations. As the name implies, this dish is made by steaming fresh fish in a steamer along with spices, such as ginger and scallions. The particularity of this dish is the soft texture of the fish, as well as the savory taste that is obtained from the salty soy sauce full of spices. It was delicious, ISDI students were very happy to be able to cook the Hongkong Tim Pomfret. |

World Down Syndrome Day.... has always been celebrated around the world by so many families, organizations, communities, special groups to uplift the spirit of camaraderie amongst us Down syndrome families...and every year there are more celebrations done by new groups of people who have come to realize they can be useful and helpful for doing good things to people born with Down Syndrome. This is especially so in Jakarta this year. So many variations of celebrations we see: online shows, online competitions in various forms, webinars, talkshows, short advertisements, televised short documentaries, online dancing, or just simple congratulatory messages in cute, sweet or formal viral settings. We, ISDI, are awefully proud to feel we have contributed to these new era of Down Syndrome's slogan of ...yes we can coming true to form...in so many variety of abilities: be that in art, dance, small acting, fashion models, expressing various emotions, cooking, sports, or just simply improving everything in all things, be that of ability to learn better, understand better, speak better, hear better, see better interact better...and be overall better. It was a very long journey to achieve all this. It took courage, patience, endurance from so many support from everyone around & beyond. This year, ISDI, still in lockdown mode due to the long running of the pandemic situation..but did not dampen the spirit of celebration for the day, we collaborated with a few organizations to raise awareness with: 1. Makarim & Taira S., Counsellor & Law Office, a very well known and prestigious law office locally as well as globally collaborated with us to produce one special video called.. Feel Better When I’m Dancing to be shared and uploaded to their various social media platforms and lawyers communities around the world. Then we collaborated with Oxone Kitchen Utensils to also make a special video featuring cooking online in our cooking program making Mangkok Cake in colors of blue, yellow & white symbolizing the Down Syndrome colors...and photo of hand made and written posters. This special video is themed: Fun cooking with Oxone-ISDI. Thirdly, a special edition of beautifully painted cover boxes for cosmetics & bath products by Scarlett, a Korean-based beauty product in Indonesia. The special design is the result of combining 3 different topics of paintings into 3 different beautiful cover boxes in colors and figures. Our student Michael R. Yacub's painting was chosen for the combined designs. So proud to be chosen for a rising new beauty product to the prestigious ranks of companies. Then there is SeribuParas... , is a community concern with special needs people in Indonesia, ambitious to make society friendly towards people born with Down Syndrome. This year Down Syndrome celebration, SeribuParas made viral a video showcasing three young Down syndrome, two of which are from ISDI, Rainer Adhiatmika proudly showing his skill playing the drum of sweet music and Tiffany Diona for writing which is very inspiring for other friends. Antara News, one of the oldest news center in Indonesia, equivalent to Reuters of America had a pleasant interview with ISDI's chairperson period of 2017-2022, Mrs. Nashita Nio on the suject of health facilities for people with special needs that has unsolved problems of health care service in general public health clinics. Indonesia unfortunately has not yet recognized the importance of priority for the disable causing some major problems. This certainly must be remedied...and hopefully Antara News is able to raise awareness to solve this inconvenience for special needs and the elders in Indonesia. Kompas TV a media has welcome this year Down Syndrome Day by showing a special program featuring Namira Zania Siregar a young adult Down Syndrome, doing her most happy activities such as fashion modelling, being a brand ambassador for cosmetic products and dancing...all that will help change the negative stigma that hangs on all people born with Down syndrome. Caught on Camera Juliwati Japi another member in the Angklung ISDI and Folklore dance group ISDI has shown a drastic result of years of training in music and dance has finally shown result of various face expresions of her emotions...notably during this lockdown period where she lived far away from her parents. She missed all the hugs and kisses of her mom. SeribuParas has helped her show her expresions and caught in camera. |

Any guests to our Center of Hope ISDI (CoH) is a valued friend. Today is especially so because our guest is Mrs. Chieko Kato, a citizen from the land of the rising sun (Japan), who has been living in Jakarta since year 2016... We met her in Angklung activity that came from Saung Sam Udjo, Bandung, an Indonesian music culture made from bamboo many years ago. ` Today Mrs. Chieko or Kato San is teaching us how to make Sushi..the authentic Japanese food. Everybody loves Sushi. Today's sushi is simple using sausage, cucumber, omelette, a leaf of lettuce, tuna and crab stick, mayonaise and tomato sauce were added to maximize the taste. It was not so difficult to make but must be attentive. The rolling of the special rice with all those fillings covered by Nori made from Seaweed is a bit challenging.. The result? nice indeed…but manageable..though the size is not as normal but our size is big.. |

The first time after three years of lockdown from the covid pandemi, Center of Hope ISDI performed at the invition from PT. Supra Boga Lestari TBK, Celebrating 24th Anniversary Market Hopping 2022 at Senayan Park Mall, South Jakarta. The event was very lively, the students from all classes of C-A performed a new choreography of collaborating karate and hip hop dance. It was amazing and happy and so lively and everybody: teachers, parents, invitees, the press/media crew, audience, was so proud for the students of Center of Hope ISDI to be able to do the performance to perfection. Some tears rolling down some faces from our teachers and parents..considering how they spent so much time practising the moves. This choreography of karate and hip hip dance was the first in the world...which added to the proud feeling of those who watched. Besides the dance, there were also a moment for auction of three paintings done by Mr. Michael R. Yacub and Miss Linda Sajadi...three students of our Center of Hope ISDI. And PT. Supra Boga Lestari was kind enough to open a donation section for ISDI to support our education. Our deep appreciation to PT. Supra Boga Lestari Tbk for a great day..and your final gift to us... those vouchers were the icing on the cake for everyone. Hopefully we will meet again. |

November 23 | 3 years Angklung ISDI did not perform due to covid 19...a long time to adjust to online lessons to no avail due to the complexity of teaching music as a team for our intelectual disability students. Alas..we have finally managed some sort of success and right after we begin to start our offline program..we have the honor to participate in a recording session to celebrate The Angklung Month which is a celebration of that particular musical instrument which was patented by UNESCO on 16th November 2010 as 100% Indonesian Heritage. ISDI was there to celebrate the monumental moment on that special day and date back on 16th November 2010. This celebration was a recording to be viraled and sponsored by the political group PDI Perjuangan of our former 5th President of Indonesia, Mrs. Megawati Soekarno Putri. It was done at Griya Anggrek at the famous Kebun Raya Bogor (Botanical Garden) in the Bogor Palace compound in West Java. Angklung ISDI collaborated with Manshur Praditya a young man who studied music angklung especially the philosophy of it, and who revolutionaized it into a music of the now generation. We played: 1. Medley of songs: We are the Champion & Heal The World. 2. Keroncong Kemayoran. 3. Bunda. We closed the event with playing the song Country Road by the legendary singer John Denver. This initiative of ISDI participating in this event was thought of by Mrs. Tricia L. Sumarijanto, a pioneer in introducing music Angklung in the USA..since 2010. She came to our Center before she went abroad that year. After this recording and becoming viral...the future of Angklung ISDI seems very bright. Bogor..is known as the city of rain..which means Bogor has a high rate of rainfall annually. Sure enough..it rained to cool off the intense heat of that day. But it did not dampened the spirit and energy of everyone from ISDI to the crew members. Lunch was served buffet style..while it rained...and we ate with gusto.. |

December 17 | What a blast of a milestone to end the year!!! Fashion show!!! Yes...fashion show... A special event celebrating both The International Disability Day and special Christmas all at the same time. All the hard work of months long practising the cat walking for that special day paid off to see our students performed their strutts, smiling broadly and triumphantly with their heads held high through thunderous applause from parents, families, friends, invitees showing faces of disbelieve and total pride seeing how amazing and incredible performance of each and everyone of our Down syndrome students. The finale was so fitting with the decor and lively Christmas songs to our hip hop dancers..where everybody joined in...which made the whole room so electrifyingly charged with happiness and feeling festive. A million thanks to Mrs. Helen and team NES for giving us such an amazing event to end the blessed year of 2022. May the coming year be more merrier and be abundantly blessed. |
ISDI (Ikatan Sindroma Down Indonesia or Indonesian Down syndrome Society) was formally established on 21 st April 1999. A non-profit support group of parents, medical professions, special-needs experts, teachers, and all of those who have deep concern.
We, as parents are very concerned of the future of children with Down syndrome in Indonesia especially when little is done to support them by the government or other non-profit organizations.
We so look forward towards a better future by sharing our experiences and supporting each other in our monthly gatherings. This way we gain knowledge and our children benefit from our experiences.
