A.   HAPPY BIRTHDAY ISDI... It is our 21st birthday celebration amidst the global pandemic covid-19, therefore we have no real celebration.  We have gone through many milestones up till now and we are grateful and appreciative towards so many of our supporters, sponsors, donators, volunteers, caregivers, parents, teachers, our Down syndrome children, families, friends, medias, sympathizers, other foundations, organizations and numerous others.  We all in our journey owe much to those who supported us in many ways from far and near to continue with our work to elevate the self-esteem of our Down syndrome children to become better and appreciated.

B.   In time of this horrible global pandemic corona virus, we encouraged our Down children to participate in donating some of their income to buy face shield for the doctors, nurses caring for patient infected by the corona virus. April Since lockdown in April, we have managed to teach our stay home students via video call, which can contain maximum of 8 (eight) students.
August 27 Our Center of Hope ISDI has been in lockdown mode since the month of March ever since the Covid-19 pandemic outbreak and everyone has been studying via online.  We miss the outdoor activities as well as all activities altogether.

But on 27th, we are so happy to be invited for a photoshoot to raise awareness in the HighEnd Style Magazine under MNC Group for an exclusive high end section of the community, at HighEnd Studio, iNews Center Building Fl. 13, Jl. Wahid Hasyim No. 26-28, Central Jakarta.

It was a showcase and introduction of “Just Like Everyone Else” clothes, a selection of everyday wear wardrobe from brand Figure.
Our girls are so happy and it shows… though there is always a moment of doubt and a bit of temper tantrum from one or two due to the long wait of the make- up and readiness of the setting of the studio.

The scenario was of happiness of parent and child with special needs, in this case Down syndrome.  The interviewer was good enough to make the occasion fun and not nerve wracking, thus it all goes very well.  Group photo and fun photo were included as and we end the shoot with dancing for all.
Our girls were:
1. Miss Amaylia Almas and father Mr. Encep Rayum
2. Miss Alice Tedja Sedjaja and class teacher Mrs Lianawati
3. Miss Cindyana Mayako Lim and mom Mrs Like Litan
4. Miss Tiffany Diona Handojo and mom Mrs Jena Handojo
August We discovered online teaching such as ZOOM application and started a few program: Folk dancing and Karate to keep our students from being bored and to keep them in top form of their brain function. It wasn’t a perfect solution, it has its drawback, but it is the best at the moment..in fact it became the best solution.
September 23 In the month of September we added yet some more program online: Painting and Hip Hop dancing. This online program makes us aware of the opportunity to apply our concept of giving, sharing and love for all friends therefore we invited some students from outside of our Center of Hope school to spread the love, sharing and opportunity. It was well received.

On 23rd of September, Oxone Kitchen invited us to create Wedang Jahe Susu drink. It is a simple concoction good for the health and rainy days weather.
October 07 Early in October ISDI and OXONE Kitchen (kitchen utensils) collaborates in ZOOM link to make homemade siomay, a Chinese dim sum favorite with Chef  Angelica Halim. As usual it was fun and the siomay turned out in many form and shape instead of the usual round shape.  Well that is the fun of it…and true enough the event made us laugh so much. We look forward to more fun cooking with Oxone and their chefs.
October 23 Mrs. Aryanti was guest on Mrs. Melly Kiong’s talkshow online.  The topic was Down syndrome vs Normal children home study during lockdown covid 19 global pandemic. Mrs. Melly Kiong is the founder and CEO of a community very focused on strategic mindful parenting education for young children.
October 26 Every Monday noon time we all will have fun talking gibberish English online, but the fun will soon turn into serious learning. The 40 minutes duration feels too short.  See you next week say the teacher….
November 04 Today it is ISDI and OXONE Kitchen collaborates making  Bakso Ayam Jamur or Chicken Mushroom dumpling with Chef Angelica Halim. As always working with their hands wearing gloves and getting dirty is all the fun in this cooking activity.
November 11

Another fun day all ISDI and friends with Oxone Kitchen under the direction of Chef Diana Cahya making Donut. It turns out making a round shape donut is very difficult, but that is the fun of it.  Some have turn out like chicken leg, some flat, some long…then of course there are those who have managed to make then perfect round like a small ball.

Voila…another fun day for all.

November 28 MUSHOME!!... Grow Mushroom from home….a new word we found during lockdown.  We collaborated with Mindful Parenting group to teach our our children to grow mushroom and be creative in making dishes from mushroom.
December 13 OXONE, a company selling all sorts of kitchen equipment, had been partnering with ISDI in teaching our special young adults in cooking, baking and learning the use of all sorts of kitchen equipment. Oxone’s Mrs. Yenny Kusuma, the owner has such a big kind heart and a soft spot for our Down syndrome students that she bestowed gifts after gifts after gifts to us in our Center of Hope ISDI.  This latest gifts were just awesome: a suitcase full of all sorts of kitchen utensils and a crepe maker. We will use them in our regular cook from home via ZOOM link/online with OXONE.  Merry Xmas OXONE and Happy and safe New Year…
December 23

About Us

ISDI (Ikatan Sindroma Down Indonesia or Indonesian Down syndrome Society) was formally established on 21 st April 1999. A non-profit support group of parents, medical professions, special-needs experts, teachers, and all of those who have deep concern.

We, as parents are very concerned of the future of children with Down syndrome in Indonesia especially when little is done to support them by the government or other non-profit organizations.

We so look forward towards a better future by sharing our experiences and supporting each other in our monthly gatherings. This way we gain knowledge and our children benefit from our experiences.
